Kelsea submitted these beautiful images to me. I was very impressed and intrigued, so I wrote back asking a few questions. Here is what she had to say. "I am a seventeen year old photographer from Fort Myers, Florida. I have been shooting since November 2010 when I was given my mom's old Minolta. So for the first few months I shot only film, but have recently started using a Canon Rebel, a polaroid when possible, and a disposable waterproof camera.
My subjects are always kids from class, sometimes friends, but mostly just acquaintances who I find interesting (but usually we become friends by the time the shoot is over!) I think the real thrill is just talking to or passing by someone in the hall and noticing a beauty about them, that they aren't even aware they possess.
Being able to use models would be an honor and probably very inspiring as well. But for now I am simply too far away from any major city (closest is Miami).
My original intent was to just shoot for myself, because it's sort of a personal obsession. My goals for quite some time have been to live and study in New York City and travel, and recently my teachers and friends suggested I should try to show my photos to colleges there, or try to get an internship. Yes, you may post my work, I would be thrilled. I found the Last People as I was reading the art blog "Ok great"! Thanks again and this made my day!!"

Colin Simmons is an emerging photographer in the NYC scene. He has an inspiring style and perspective that makes me want to be with friends, see the country, meet new people, and play in the streets on New York City. We met though our mutual friend Ruel Wormz Smith, who Colin plays along side of in their band Imaginary Friends. Chris’ work has been featured in numerous publications, and has exploded within the bike blog-o-sphere. In addition to killing it as a designer / illustrator, he can throw down on his 20-inch and fixie. I think for many people in the creative fields, it is easy to become cynical and bitter—but Chris has fortunately managed to evade this. Even in his works that deal with serious topics, there is a sense of humor and positive empowerment that is hard to find.

If you're on the east coast right now then you're probably stuck inside
watching snow pour down on the streets. For those of you that miss the
summer as much as I do here's a series of photos that were taken at
beaches on the east coast to remind you of the warm weather that will be
here again soon enough. In the meantime, try to mix good coffee with

Jon Rafman is one of my favorite new artists right now. He's been working on a very rad project called The 9 Eyes of Google Street View 2007-2010 for awhile, it's genius. Recently he posted a picture of two BMX grommits, one seat surfing, on their way to meet the grom crew. It's so awesome. Chris Milk created a page that allows people to draw individual frames of the video, "Ain't No Grave." The video is then assembled from these frames, based on ratings by viewers. This creates an ever changing work of art. "Ruins are the visible symbols and landmarks of our societies and their changes, small pieces of history in suspension. The state of ruin is essentially a temporary situation that happens at some point, the volatile result of change of era and the fall of empires. This fragility, the time elapsed but even so running fast, lead us to watch them one very last time: being dismayed, or admire, making us wondering about the permanence of things.Photography appeared to us as a modest way to keep a little bit of this ephemeral state." - Marchand & Meffre

Oobjects

OMFG co is really cool design agency out of Seattle. Next Friday May 7th Exit Skate Supply Co. will be hosting the 3rd annual Deck Heads art show. With over 80 artists (including myself) showing, you'll see art presented on skateboard decks in ways you've never thought and a bunch of ways you've probably already thought of. In conjunction with the galleries Amberella, Jinxed, and Jolie Laide, it's going to be one hell of a show. The biggest of its kind for sure. Make sure you're there and you bring cash. Check out my blog Know Fun at www.ryandelacruz.com. You or someone you know just might have a photo of themselves on there. Also, don't forget to check out rskmiecdesign.com for some of the design stuff we do. Maybe one day we'll have a less lame name, it's so dry it makes me want a glass of water.

30 Days NY

THIRTYDAYSNY is a celebration of the merger of arts and culture. The challenge was building out, organizing, managing, and presenting a live gallery space open to the public for one month in the heart of New York City. The gallery is curated by Family Bookstore, and the accompanying Thirty Days NY website is headed by Dallas Clayton. The completed Thirty Days Gallery, located at 70 Franklin Street, Tribeca, will feature weekly performances, symposiums, and showcases from contemporary artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers from all over the world.

Check out the calender of events here, to see everything they have going on.

Ryan is a fun lovin' criminal originally from the deep south of FLA. He prefers shooting the old fashion way (with film), and captures a lot of the intimate moments in his life. Much of his portfolio reminds me of look book for some hip fashion line, in a good way of course. NYC is his playground where late nights are accompanied by friends, booze, lucky chicks, and shutter clicks. His days are spent assisting some of the photo world's big guns, all while building upon his own, already impressive catalog of work. Sorry about the overlap from his auto photo on Defgrip (also a must see), I guess we crossed streams a bit on this one. Chad's photos remind me of fun and wild times that I have shared with my own friends, somewhere at sometime. He does a great job of sparking an emotion that might have been felt by the people who were actually there in the flesh. Thats what photography is all about, isn't it? Originally from Florida, Chad now calls New York City home, but also spends a good deal of time living life on the road. Howies is a clothing brand out of Wales. They have a full range of really nice looking clothing, and support BMX and other forms of bike ridings. Their company history is pretty interesting as well, so have a read.
